The only way to find out if you have HIV is to get tested!
Thinking about your life experience, and bearing in mind that HIV has a long incubation period, have you ever been in any of the following situations?
- Have you had one or more sexual contacts without a condom?
- Do you use condoms correctly every time you have sex?
- Have you had tattoos?
- Have you had blood transfusions?
- Have you had a medical procedure in which your blood came into contact with instruments that might not have been sterile (vaccines, dental procedures, etc.)?
- Have you used injected drugs?
- Have you separated from a partner for a while and then resumed a sexual relationship with that person?
- Have you or your partner had a sexually transmitted infection (STI)?
- Have you had sexual contact with someone who answered “YES” to any of the questions above?
If you answered even one question with “Yes”, it is advisable to get an HIV test.
It is always better to know!
It is normal to feel worried about HIV, but testing can reduce your anxiety.
People often don't get tested because they are worried about the result, but knowing your status allows you to take care of your health.
If the result is negative, you can get more information on how to stay that way, and if the result is positive, you can start treatment to make sure you stay healthy.
It's quick and easy!
ARAS offers rapid HIV testing, free and anonymous!
Whichever type of test is used, rapid saliva or blood test, none of them is painful.
For more information about testing and the centres where you can get tested, call AIDS HELPLINE 0800 800 033.
